Get One Step Ahead Of Your Interviewer
Daunted by the thought of the interview questions around your personality style and team fit?
You really want this job, but you know the questions will be coming “Tell us about a time when you led a team…..”. You need to impress.
We recently had one of our contacts (let’s call them Sarah) recount a great story to us. Sarah was in exactly this position. She had a couple of interviews coming up, and wanted to be better prepared. These roles were sought after, and she needed to differentiate herself.
Sarah had struck on the idea of using our Accountants Personality Profile before the interview. She told us it was a game changer. Even before the interviewers could start off the situational questions, she was able to pull out the report, and talk about her preferred working style. She compared her profile to the finder / minder / grinder accounting position ideals, and discussed how she ‘closed the gaps’ where her profile didn’t match. Using the development suggestions in the profile report she could also outline the training and development she’d value so she could improve further. The interviewers were blown away. Sarah had put in the effort beforehand to consider her ‘job fit’, and what her coping styles were where issues were identified. Sarah showed she realized the importance communication and team dynamics would play with success in the role, and was prepared to invest to show she had what was required.
Sarah used the Accountants Personality Profile Questionnaire. This Big 5 profile focuses on the traits studies have shown to be the key for success specifically in accounting roles – Ethics, Relationships, Thinking and Coping – covering areas such as conscientiousness, assertiveness, warmth, affiliation, openness, creativity, change focus and emotional stability.
When you’re looking at your next role, get prepared. Using a high quality personality profile before the interview could make all the difference during the 40 minutes you have to impress a future employer.
